Telecomparisons.com provides you with information that is as accurate as possible without requiring you to input an excessive amount of information. This means that we have to use some assumptions and standard methods to combine the information provided by you with the information we have in our databases. The result is a balance between accuracy and user friendliness. Our goal is for the dollar estimates to be as close as possible, but in particular to get the rankings right.
Assumptions:
Rates for "On peak" times are calculated based on the start and stop times specified by each supplier, starting between 6 and 8 am, till between 5 and 8 pm, Monday to Friday
Evenings and weekends are at the same rate from all suppliers. The calculations include the start and stop times specified by each supplier, starting between 5 and 8 pm, till between 6 and 8 am, Monday to Friday. All weekend is considered off peak.
For the incumbent provincial telephone companies, Telus, Sask Tel, Manitoba Tel, Bell, and Aliant, we have assumed consistent rates for calls to each province, and assume that the average in province call will be one of 100 kms.
If you do not indicate the percentage split between Weekdays, and Weekends/evenings, it is assumed that 80 % of the calls are made on Weekends/evenings
Unless otherwise specified, rates listed are for landline calls. Rates for calls to cell phones may be higher.
International Rates
We have had to assume that all of the international calls input by the user are to the one country specified. Otherwise we would have to ask the user which countries they call, # of calls to each and # of minutes for each country.
Where a provider has different rates to different parts of international countries, we have used the lowest rate to that country, which is usually to the largest city, as the cost to call that country.
